Privacy Policy
Effective October 12, 2026
- We collect what you give us to run your budget, and not much else.
- We don't sell your information or use it for advertising.
- This website has no ads, no analytics, and no tracking cookies.
- You can ask us to delete your account and data at any time.
Who we are
BudgetRat ("BudgetRat," "we," "us") makes a budgeting app and this website, budgetrat.com. If you have questions about this policy, email info@budgetrat.com.
What we collect
Account information. Your name, email address, and password when you create an account. Passwords are stored only as a secure one-way hash, so we can't see them.
Budget information you enter. Your income, the bills and fixed costs you add, the spending you log (amounts, dates, categories, and any notes), and your settings, such as your week start day and Buffer percentage.
Sign-in details. When you sign in, we record a name for the device (for example, "iPhone") so you can tell your sessions apart, and your time zone so your weeks start on the right day.
Server logs. Like most websites, our servers automatically log basic request information, such as IP address, browser type, and the time of a request. We use these logs to keep the service running and secure.
What we don't collect. BudgetRat does not currently connect to your bank or card accounts, and we don't ask for account numbers. If we add bank connections in the future, they will be optional, we will explain exactly what they access, and we will update this policy before turning them on.
How we use it
- To run the app: calculating your weekly number, tracking your spending, and keeping your Stash and history up to date.
- To keep your account secure and prevent abuse.
- To contact you about your account, such as password resets or important changes to the service.
- To fix problems and improve BudgetRat.
We won't send you marketing email unless you choose to receive it.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it with advertisers. We share information only:
- With service providers who help us run BudgetRat, such as our hosting provider, and only as needed for them to provide that service.
- If the law requires it, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of BudgetRat, our users, or others.
- As part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of BudgetRat, in which case we'll tell you before your information is covered by a different privacy policy.
Cookies and tracking
This website doesn't use cookies, analytics, or advertising trackers. The BudgetRat app keeps a sign-in token on your device so you stay signed in: in your phone's secure storage on iPhone and Android, and in your browser's local storage on the web.
How we protect it
Your information is stored on servers in the United States. Connections to BudgetRat are encrypted with HTTPS, passwords are hashed, and access to our systems is limited. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you promptly if a breach affects your data.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your information for as long as you have an account. You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings → Delete account. That immediately and permanently removes your account and everything in it: your budget, plan, spending history and Stash. If you can't get into the app, email info@budgetrat.com from the address on your account and we'll delete it within 30 days. Copies in routine backups are removed as those backups expire.
You can also ask us for a copy of your information or to correct anything that's wrong.
Children
BudgetRat isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If the changes are significant, we'll let you know in the app or by email before they take effect.
